Our four executive officers lead CA-SA of AST's day-to-day operations, strategic initiatives, and member advocacy. Each brings deep clinical experience and a commitment to elevating the surgical technology profession statewide.
Suzette Robinson, BS CST
Surgical technology educator and advocate with 10+ years at USC and faculty experience at Glendale Career College.
I have had the privilege of serving on the California State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) since 2021. I was elected to the Board of Directors and later appointed to serve as Vice President, roles that have allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of our profession.
My journey into leadership and advocacy was shaped during my 10 years at USC, where I recognized a significant gap in surgical technology–specific education within hospital systems. This realization strengthened my commitment to ensuring that surgical technologists are educated and supported by individuals who understand both the clinical and educational landscapes of our field.
In addition to my clinical experience, I have been fortunate to serve as an educator at Glendale Career College, where I have been able to directly impact the development of future surgical technologists. It is a true honor to bring these experiences to my service within the state assembly.
Sabrina Arreaga, CST
Seven-year California State Assembly leader, Kaiser Permanente CST, mentor, and advocate serving as Vice President and in national AST leadership.
Over the past seven years, I have had the opportunity to serve in several roles within California State Assembly, including Student Volunteer, Board Director, Secretary, and currently Vice President. I also serve as Co-Chair of Education, Social, and Media. For the past five years, I have proudly represented California as a delegate at the AST National Conference.
I am a Certified Surgical Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, where I serve as the evening liaison for General Surgery. I enjoy precepting and mentoring surgical technologists while working across a variety of specialties, including vascular, general surgery, ophthalmology, gynecology, podiatry, orthopedics, robotics, neurosurgery, and plastics.
I am passionate about mentoring future leaders, strengthening state assemblies, and advocating for legislative recognition of the Surgical Technology profession. I believe in creating opportunities for others, sharing my experiences, and encouraging surgical technologists to become involved and make their voices heard. I'm serving my first term on the Association of Surgical Technologists’ State Assembly Leadership Committee (SALC). I am excited for the opportunity to continue growing as a leader and serving our profession.
Kendria Stevens-Hulsinger, BSHCA, CST
20-year CST veteran, 5-year surgical technology educator, and 23-year AST member bringing deep experience to the board.
With 20 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist, 5 years in surgical technology education, and 23 years as a proud member of the AST, I have seen firsthand the importance of strong leadership and advocacy within our profession. Being elected to the Board of Directors is both an honor and a responsibility I hold with deep respect.
I believe that by actively listening to both emerging professionals and seasoned technologists, we can collectively develop initiatives that enhance education, promote career advancement, and strengthen the future of our profession. Advocacy will continue to be a cornerstone of my service.
Wil Montes, CST
Seven-year CST and Clinical Coordinator at Northwest College, committed to financial integrity and organizational excellence.
With seven years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist, I have developed a deep appreciation for the demands and rewards of working in the operating room. My path has included challenges that have strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and commitment to excellence in patient care.
I am passionate about the work I do and take pride in collaborating with colleagues to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in the surgical environment. I currently serve as a Clinical Coordinator at Northwest College, where I am dedicated to supporting the development of future surgical technologists while advancing educational excellence within the field.
In my role as Treasurer, I am committed to elevating the visibility, integrity, and respect of our organization — leading by example and fostering a culture that reflects the professionalism, dedication, and value that surgical technologists bring to healthcare each day.
